About This Program
Grief is an existential reality we all live through, rather than something we get over or problems we fix. Clinicians may struggle to identify grief in presenting problems as it is often considered only when someone speaks of death; however, across the lifespan, loss can take many forms. To further complicate grief work, counselors’ own experiences around loss can shape their willingness to approach and meet clients in their pain. This presentation will cover current definitions of grief, loss, and bereavement and invite reconceptualization to assist counselors with their ability to identify and effectively work with grief. We will explore how to reconceptualize grief through a developmental lens.
